Installing
- Install Tampermonkey from tampermonkey.net. It works in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari and Opera. In Chrome and Edge, also switch on Allow user scripts (or Developer mode) for Tampermonkey in the browser's extension settings - the browser asks for this now.
- Go to your download page and press Install Tribal Works. Tampermonkey opens a tab showing the add-on; press Install.
- Open Tribal Wars and sign in as usual.
The first start
The Tribal Works window opens in the corner of the game. It checks your licence, reads the world's settings (speed, units, night bonus) and looks around your village. Nothing happens until you press Start.
The window can be dragged anywhere and folded down to its title bar. It remembers where you left it.
Plans
A plan is a build order and an army mix. Pick the one that matches what the village is for:
- Guide - offensive main - the classic opening for a first village: paladin, a raiding army, then the road to the academy.
- Defensive village - wall, farm and defensive units. The right plan for a second village.
- Offensive village, Noble train village, Catapult village, Scout village - for villages with one job.
- Manual - builds and recruits nothing on its own; you decide everything, it still raids, defends and collects.
Each browser leans a little its own way inside a plan - slightly more of one unit, slightly less of another - so armies don't all look identical.
Overruling it
Anything the plan says can be changed:
- Building targets - "wall to 15" moves the wall to the front until it gets there.
- Unit floors - on the troops tab, the first box on a unit means "always keep at least this many, before anything else".
- Raiding reach - the longest travel time it may send troops on raids.
- Standing orders - for example, attack one player's village whenever your army is back to a given size, with a cooldown between hits.
- Night bonus - tick Never land an attack during the night bonus and timed attacks wait for the bonus to end.
Keeping it running
Tribal Works lives in the game tab. It runs while that tab is open, and stops when you close it - there is no server playing for you. For a village that works through the night:
- leave the game open in its own browser window, on a computer that stays on;
- turn off sleep for that computer, or at least while it is plugged in;
- if the tab is closed or the browser restarts, just open the game again - Tribal Works starts by itself and carries on.
Bot checks
When the game puts up a bot check, Tribal Works stops at once, sounds an alarm in the tab, and waits. It never solves them - that is yours to do. Solve it in the game, then press I have solved it - carry on in the Tribal Works alarm. Troops it moved out of the way come home, and it picks up where it stopped.
If you will be away for long, remember it cannot get past a bot check without you - it will simply wait.
Backups
Your settings live in your browser. Under Settings → Keeping a copy, press Copy setup to clipboard and paste the text somewhere safe. If the browser loses its storage, or you move computers, copy that text again and press Restore from clipboard: plans, overrides and standing orders all come back.
New computer
A licence covers 2 browsers. When you move, go to your account, press Reset browsers, and install on the new one. Restore your backup there and you are back where you were.
When something looks wrong
- The window does not appear. Check Tampermonkey is enabled and Tribal Works is switched on in its dashboard, then reload the game.
- "Licence not valid". The window says why - expired, or too many browsers. Your account page fixes both.
- It is not doing something you expected. Open the log: every decision is written there with its reason. Often it is saving up for something or waiting for troops to return.
- Still stuck? Talk to us.
